I.

Attendance Policy > Reporting Absences

Regular attendance and promptness to class are necessary to assure the continuity of the educational program. Time lost from class is irretrievable, and absences tend to disrupt the continuity of the instructional program. Time on task is essential if students are to succeed in their educational efforts. Most teaching is done in an orderly sequence of building concepts and practices based on classroom activities and previous academic experiences. If this pattern is broken by poor attendance, neither the student nor the school can expect satisfactory progress. School attendance is ultimately the responsibility of students and families. Students should remain out of school ONLY WHEN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY .

Absences will be considered either excused or unexcused. IN ORDER TO RECEIVE CREDIT, students in grades K-8 will be allowed not more than a total of 10 absences per year including excused and unexcused absences.

Absences for reasons listed will be approved if the parent or guardian will do ONE of the following:

A. Telephone the school ON THE DAY of the absence. Telephone calls are not accepted on the day that the student ....returns to school.

B. Send a written excuse by the student upon returning to school. The excuse must be presented to the office at the time ....of arrival before school. Given legitimate extenuating circumstances, the principal may allow an additional 24 hours.

C. Telephone the school and get prior approval when there is prior knowledge of an absence.
